Gasping for Air

I haven’t posted for a while because I’ve been super-busy with a startup that I’m working on and with travel.  The title of this post has nothing to do with that however — rather I am breathlessly waiting for my Macbook Air to arrive and Apple is driving me crazy by shipping every single little accessory I ordered before shipping me what I really want: The Air.

I realize that in my over-eager state of ordering the Air while waiting for a plane at DTW on January 15 that I probably checked the “ship items as they are available” box hoping this would get me my Air more quickly.  Instead, it has just created torture: Every day or two I get a package delivered or some little FedEx slip on my door that tells me of a package that I missed.   But none of them are my Air.  Instead they are video adapter cables, copies of Office 2008 for Mac, extra power plugs, etc.

Apple seems pretty astute at designing user interfaces to protect me from disappointing myself.  Maybe they could rig their shipping logistics so I wouldn’t be holding a Superdrive for MacBook Air while still waiting for the Air itself?  I know that I’m ultimately to blame for ordering the way I did, but nonetheless this experience has been a little strange.
